I agree 100% I would suggest if you're going to run the game, come up with the basic rules - post rate, # of characters allowed per player, etc. and produce an intro to the game -- the EN World (http://www.enworld.org) PBP boards have some pretty good templates to give you some ideas -- and post it here. We'll see what kind of response we get! :)
I'm working on it. I'm kind of hoping to get some more feedback from other players as well. I'm looking forward to seeing the player base expand, and this way all of the players can play with/against each other.
I like the idea of play-by-post I am interested in trying it out. If it gains enough popularity you guys might want to look into putting together a site with some tools to help manage games. Much like www.dndonlinegames.com.
But, with Untold's flexibility and low material requirements (cards instead of books), it would be fairly easy. We should look into how it's done, but I think it would be fairly popular, especially for people who may not have a playgroup near them.
I agree on the whole part of getting people to play even though they don't have a play group near them. Maybe we could even develop a way of representing the cards online so if one player doesn't have a card that someone else in the game is using they could verify the content of the card. Or also see it and go oooh I want that one what pack is it in. The really nice thing with dndonlinegames.com is that it has a decent permissions system for allowing only the GM to perform certain actions and it has a very good dice roller built in.
Hey Ben, if you want to run a PBP test game maybe we can use dndonlinegames as a test platform since it has a lot of functionality built in and we can figure out what else we might need in addition to that. If you don't have an account over there you can create one for free. You will need to post a proposal for the game and the admin's will have to approve it.I can get my friend Chuck or Securis to approve the game most likely.
Hey Securis, mind if we use dndonlinegames as a test bed?
-Looks like I need to start beefing up my Java and web programming again.
I'll help however I can. You seem to know a great deal more about this than me, so I'll follow your lead as best I can. I'm pretty swamped with school for the next two weeks, but then I'm free for the summer.
Please do, Stimpy - this sounds AWESOME! :) As Cap said, you guys are reading our minds. (Looks around for the hidden camera floating above his head...)
Hey Ben,
Just setup an account on DnDonlinegames.com for now and let me know your username. I will talk to Securis tonight about getting approval for the game and let you guys know something tomorrow or later tonight. I don't think there will be a problem with it so long as Securis can play. We might want to wait until we get the Playtesting materials in so that I can drum up a couple of other people that are avid play by post people on the site to help with testing and input.
We welcome you to come to dndonlinegames.com to trial an error Untold in a PbP format. I'm not sure how your mechanics and the cards will workout but I do get a sense that with some extra periphery support, you could get some stellar gaming done. Not only that, we're a website of an estimated 2000+ daily users. What an audience? Ehh? Though self promotion is a bit outside our normal protocols, we'd make some exceptions with some mutually beneficial ad trades. We'll negotiate and discuss all feasible options.
Ben, when not if, when you apply for your game, put it under Other Role-play games, mention your purpose, mention pertinent details in terms of world and game mechanics, and especially mention the user-names of those that will be participating from the outset. Even though you likely already have play-testers, make an advertisement explaining who and what is happening in your game. It will likely breed some interest outside your original group, plus garner some new players.
I can answer any, uh....., most questions regarding our site there because I'm there a lot. I'll try getting back here more often.
Here's to working with you and I hope all goes well.
Also, I've been playing in PbP format for several years and have forgotten more ways of doing it than ways I still do it. So, I submit myself to questions about style and functionality based on DNDOG's specific hacks. We have quite a few little jewels, other than a dice roller, that make RP very intensive and quite thrilling.
Welcome to the boards and thanks for the help, Securis! We really appreciate it! I'd love to talk to you about some cross-promotion - please drop me an email: ashy [at symbol] wanderingmen [dot symbol] com - looking forward to talking to you!

I think the new updates will make PBP format like skating on third edition grease (with a decent AGI, o'course ;). So, keep me posted (no pun, I promise), as I'd like to also play a loose character, one able to contribute from time-to-time as life allows. -Corey
I'd love to actually PLAY! :)
Well, I thought it might be a good way for players from across the nation to play with one another.

We might want to put something in the newsletter about it too. :)

Stimpy, would you mind coordinating with Ben on something like that? :)

Ashy and I were talking about something similar on the way back form Mobicon....Hall was there too! ;-)
That would be awesome guys! Keep us posted!

The camera is very hidden lol.

It's weird, isn't it, Ashy? Almost like we can see into your mind...~shudders~
Anyways, Yeah, ok, I'll get on there as soon as I can. This is falling together quite nicely!

I realize you guys must be busy. Just poking/bumping/reminding.
Yes - VERY busy! This weekend is a pivotal one for Untold!

Benraven28 was part of the Untold Playtest session yesterday, so he's seen the "new" Untold. :D
That was the reference, and glad I was able to drop in and join the furious fun (more on that to come, when I can sit down and hopefully write)
Benraven, *I'm* looking forward to the time when you can do some more writing! :D
Thanks, Ashy! Pray that is soon. :)
:D
