Entry I-56-a, The Hydra Strand
Remus Nix, High-bred Exo-biologist
"Testing...testing."
"Thank goodness - seems to be working. This is Lt. Col. Remus Nix and I'm preserving this autopsy for NAU Command. 'Pretty sure it'll be important. Thankfully, I found some old celluloid cylinders in these ruins; looks like the place could'a been some sorta data center before the Event... Or maybe post-Event. I ain't sure. There are some odd...indications...that the NAU were here before - some strange recordings of the Rules & Regs on some of these cylinders, but honestly - seems a bit off to me."
"Makes the hairs on the back'a'my head stand up." (more...)
I kept waiting for the Strand to revive and attack - I'm rather simplistic in my suspense, sorry.
Was it twisting Nix's mind to ignore life-threatening wounds? And how did Nix end up being the only one left? I'm really curious how it took out the squad and left Nix with his fatal wound.
Feel free to write it! I'd love to see someone's idea of how it all happened! I intended to leave ya hangin', so... :)
Nice ecology
Thanks, Cap! :D
I commented on the story in jest, but thought the concept was rockin'! Please post kore teaser ecologies when you get a chance. :)
:P
;)
I've already used the Hydra Strand in some of my preliminary Untold concepts. One attacked Artemis Grange and his group. It's a good creature to be that "OMG something's gonna kill us dead!!!" encounter. If you know what I mean.
Excellent! Way to go TinyKing! Also, I just made you a writer, so you should be able to see the WIP section of the site! :D
Possible thoughts, maybe the creature exudes a pheromone that increases adrenaline (or something similar with other organic races)production, thus making easier for its prey to shrug off what would normally would be a debilitating injury. The purpose behind this is because, flooding the system of its prey with adrenaline provides the right nutrients the hydra needs to survive and stay nourished. However, as a side effect of its creation, the increased adrenaline in its victim makes it more and more aggressive with every feeding. Kind of like a quick high, but if it is an engineered creature it would potentially make every encounter with it more deadly than the last. A group of these creatures rampaging in enemy territory would cause havoc and i would suspect their creators would have a specific genetic marker that they could trigger to destroy the creatures once the objectives they had set were fulfilled.
That's a groovy idea, suren! Or, maybe it's a more subtle weapon. Maybe the Externals know that the surge of adrenaline tends to make the "simple-minded mammals" more prone to try dangers and foolish things and often puts them in situations that compromise themselves in combat... Kinda like a false sense of confidence. ;)
Groovy idea - Ravenwing! +5 UP!

Waaa? No comments? :(
