I'd love to get a feel for what folks think of this concept. It was first introduced here (http://www.untoldthegame.com/forum/upu-tennessee#comment-4401) with the seminal idea being something Benraven posted.
So the concept is this: Each state or region (as organized around Ben's UPU Threads as seen here) would get together and based on their geographic location, create a Real World Faction that will fit into the Untold world. For instance, players in Atlanta, GA might decide to create an NAU Faction based around the surviving remnants of the CDC, or maybe an Undead Faction that lives in Atlanta Underground, or maybe even a Gree-Gree village. Or players in Pensacola, FL, since that area is underwater in the Untold mythos, might create a faction of marine L'na, or a Churl tribe that survives on barely stitched together flotillas...
Etc...etc...
There's no end, really, to what we could do with things like this: contests to create Faction Names, Symbols, costumes...we could sponsor meet-ups of Faction members, maybe even special discounts for super active groups that managed to get their pictures in the local paper (for good reasons, of course), there could be contests between Factions that even influence the Untold world!
Anyway - ever since this was mentioned, my brain's been spinning with this concept and I would like to know what other Untold fans think about it. So, sound off! :P
I like the idea, especially when more fans grow into the regions to make a faction really come to life.
There could even be contests that "pit" the groups against one another, with the winners getting special prizes or something.
Honestly, I see this as something that could actually get our user base to grow. Something like this is something that anyone (non gamer or whatever) could initially be attracted to... ;)
And it encourages teamwork/fraternity/friendship/whatever between local players...
Having larger overarching factions for the regions (or types of factions) would be great for grouping state factions together and build up the international develop eventually. It could break down by type (klik, NAU, churl, Undead, mix), such as a "Swamps of Lanta" for the South East, "NAU Central" for the Midlands, "Undead Infection" for East Coast--just overlying themes for larger areas than just state to state to offer cohesion to the regions.
Yup...exactly! :D
I love this idea - funny if Pensacola becomes the "Cantonmen" since we've got the largest concentration of female Untold players thus far...
Ideas:
- Fiction contests based on region: have each region come up with stories, and the winners from each region are then gathered up and a grand prize winner announced, affecting the Splintered Serenity continuity (this could be a quarterly/annual event)
- Excursions: mainly just an excuse to road trip, maybe a little cosplay too
- Themed adventures: each region could come up with their "official" adventure to give the flavor of the region, in PDF form, on this site
- Special visitor cards: Jumbo Apoc Shrimp? Special Undead Shattering NAU weapon? Tornado based Churl power? Maybe each area could define one card that is the signature power/ability/loot, and one of that card is sent to players in that region, plus players from other regions who attend special events in the given area.
more to come...
Just post ideas here, LK! No better place to keep them IMHO! :D
True, Lumbrklik, true...but Jennifer liked the name since she grew up in Cantonment.
Those are awesome ideas, LK!!! Keep 'em comin!!
So, I'm grooving on this idea. I need all the Untold Alabamians to head over here: http://www.untoldthegame.com/forum/upu-alabama#comment-4724
I could see (if we can get enough to join) forming a faction purely of women who play Untold regardless of geographic region ; ) What do you think, Dovebear?
Sounds cool to me!
I STILL think this is such a cool idea!!! :D
I agree!! You getting any ideas fostering for those North Alabaman residents? :)
Hurh??
I guess as opposed to festering maybe?
as opposed to jet lag. yeah, festering.
Ah.... Well, I'm still grooving on the VonBraun Klik, personally. I can see a bunch of crazy, gearloose Klik trying to "retro-fit" "ancient" rockets and go to the moon! :P

I like the idea of the "Cantonmen", a floatilla of Highbred/Churls with a smattering of L'na and Klik who surived on the Southeastern U.S.'s southern coast. Something of a bulwark against the undead infection and the other horrors hiding in the swamp.
