What exactly is a Node? I assume they are a portion of the Great Machine that has been transferred to Apoc Earth, but are they still functioning in any way - i.e. are they still connected to the Great Machine? Or, if they are disconnected from the Great Machine are they just ruins haunted by displaced Kliks? I realize as a GM I could make either one work, and either one does have a lot of story potential, but while I've come actoss the term, I don't recall coming across a commonly understood, or official description of what a Node is.

Thanks,

Bruce

Huh...

Well, traditional Untold line: You decide!

If you want some stronger guidelines however, I can only provide what I've determined which may or may not be accurate.

Klik nodes are large chunks of the great machine, found on apoc earth or otherwise. In the great machine, they act as sections, devoted to certain purposes and whatnot. The ones found on Apoc Earth are no longer connected to the Great Machine, but are still functional.

To put it even shorter, nodes are to klik what cities are to humans.

Could not have said it better myself...

M3 is spot on - in Untold, YOU get to decide. In my world, for instance, most Klik Nodes (like the massive one in the Caribbean) are only partially functional. They are constantly breaking down, failing, and generally giving the Klik a whole lot of "busy work" and providing tons of story/adventure hook material (Yea, the Phase-Warp Generator on level Sub-Tera-Twelve has failed and we need someone to get item Y to fix it!... etc...) for me as a GM.

However, you can make Klik Nodes whatever you want. Sometimes, Kilk begin forming enclaves of their own creation (like what will be seen in Michigan in Gearless) and those are also called Nodes. :)

Klik towns...

Likewise, I feel that the term "Node" is the Klik equivalent of "town", "city", "outpost", "colony", "factory", etc. In my mind, the Great Machine has vast "uninhabited" regions similar to wilderness that separates the Nodes.

But as M3 and Ashy said, it's up to you! :D

True...

True, TL, but those areas of "wilderness" are areas of basically unmaintained and half-sentient gearwork, forest of frozen pistons, massive jungles full of tangled webs of vine-like cables and pulleys, festering pools of lubricants (and worse liquids), not to mention all the other, non-Klik races that inhabit the Great Machine!

A world FULL of adventure! :D

Thanks, I like the analogy to cities - that gives a clearer picture in my mind.
