Some interesting stuff here that could really be used well in an Untold game. The stuff about Detroit is especially interesting... :)

Cool...

I have my setting for the story idea I threw your way: "the city’s old train depot -- a massive, 18-story transportation hub -- has been abandoned, its intricate shell a reminder of its past importance."

I've actually been in an abandoned penitentiary - they really do look like the photos. Also been in a lot of abandoned factories. Not pretty.

I prefer the old cathedrals - lots of rpg potential.

Edit: The State Mental Institutions are also great places to use (a number on Opacity). I have a friend that does asbestos abatement work. He once actually found a room during demolition surveys that had been walled over in a basement sub-level that was full of jars with 'pickled' body parts. That's HUMAN body parts. Makes me think that all of teh stories about experimentation on patients was probably true.

Centralia

How about abandoned Centralia, what used to be a town in Pennsylvania. It was an inspiration for the town in the movie version of Silent Hill.

Sad Story

Yup, Centralia is an interesting but unfortunate place. An example of where correcting the problem is beyond the financial resources and current capabilities to do so. Cheaper just to move everyone.
