Polls close in a week!
Well, there is really no need to rush. I say this for a few reasons:
A.) Unlike other card games, there is no need to develop and add to a set of cards that will eventually rotate out of legality. Therefore, there is no real rush to BUY cards that are always legal.
B.) There is no randomness to the game packaging, so there is no need to be constantly buying cards. Buy what you want/need, and then if you want/need to add on, you can. So we don't need to rush to meet a high demand. Release decks at your leisure, with the understanding that you need to keep adding fresh cards to the set, but don't do it in such a manner as to stress out about not meeting a deadline.
C.) People who order decks offline will be hesitant to buy a $10 deck with a $6 shipping rate. They will likely wait and build a massive order so that the shipping cost is not so outrageous. Therefore, this will allow for the ability for customers to continue to add to their order (while waiting for say, a paycheck :) ) and the longer they wait, the more likely they are to shop.
But this is just my opinion.
Ben said: "So we don't need to rush..."
Don't you mean: So WMS doesn't need to rush... ???
Sorry, typo. It should be "you don't need to rush". I was thinking "we can wait, so there is no need to rush", but as usual, my fingers got away from me. It happens so often, they almost have a mind of their own...
This is a tough one for me. Ben is right in that until more stores carry Untold, people are going to wait until they have several decks that they want before they order (many people have stated that on this site). I get the luxury of going to TBS and buying whatever I want when I want or special ordering it through them if they don't happen to have it.
But I will say one thing, and this is just a suggestion to think about...I like the idea of having a deck that comes out at each con. After the con, you can put it on the website. But give the people at the con the ability to purchase a specific deck before anyone else has a chance. That way, when you attend a con, you can introduce said deck and let people know that they are the first to see and they have the chance to buy before anyone else. Then, when the con is over, you can release the deck onto the website (and in stores). Maybe you could even do a little write up about how people at the con responded to it (or a video?...or both?). But let it be just one deck per con. This way, you don't overwhelm people at the con with new stuff. This will also allow you the ability to release multiple decks a month (during the busy con season). So one week is Mobicon, "Hostile Hands: Races of Earth" came out. The next week is Imagicon, you had "Melee Weapons", "Flux Horrors: Battle", and "Undead Powers" (I think that's right...). You could even build up the suspense on the website by teasing people with the name, maybe a little about what's in it, etc. Or, if you know in advance, give Lumberklik some fodder for his newsletter. He can tease people with what will be "Coming to a Con Near You". He could give the names and dates of the cons and maybe the names and basic description of the deck, but not tell people which will be released at what con. (First person to put the decks in the correct release order before the first con that month might be an interesting game...). I'm rambling....this is just some ideas that I had.
These are very solid ideas, Dovebear, and we've considered doing something just like this. You'll be seeing something along these lines happening very soon, in fact. :P
Last day to vote is today! Polls close tomorrow!
Survey says - the way we're doing it now! A deck every other week!
Thanks for voting!

I'm voting on what would be easiest for you guys to help ease up your schedule. The thing is though is that, for now, you're gonna wanna release 'em fast. Then maybe a few months after turning a profit, you might want to make it 1-2 times a year (my vote) and as more and more people settle in, possibly upgrade the releases from there, to gain an edge on other companies.
