There's an interesting blog post and discussion on Gnome Stew about adding collectible elements to RPGs that might interest other Untold fans: http://www.gnomestew.com/gming-advice/running-pay-to-play-collectible-rp...

One of the things that seems to concern the GS crew is randomization, ala Magic: the Gathering boosters. Certainly a concern, but Untold doesn't have any randomization like that -- in that sense, it is much more like the Living Card Game model, as seen in Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, and Call of Cthulhu all by Fantasy Flight Games.
As far as the overall pay-to-play issue goes, I'm certainly OK with the sharing-is-caring approach from my collection. And costs are very manageable with Untold -- the most expensive deck outside of the Starters is less than half of the typical RPG book, and with the LCG model its easy to focus and get only what you need. And if you really need a specific mix, using the Elite build-a-deck function would still make for reasonable costs, even with the one-month access fee premium.
