Any idea when a (pure) Fantasy Starter Set is going to be released?
I'm holding off buying any Untold products until this thing happens.
Timelord speaks the truth - there's already a ton of fantasy that stems from the Churls and the L'na (almost like we planned it...) that could easily be used in a fantasy game. Also, if you don't mind a little Steampunk in your fantasy, all of the Klik stuff could be used as well. :)
We're working on some fantasy stuff, but I cannot say when it will be out yet; all of that is still behind the curtain, so to speak. Likely as not, you'll hear about it in the newsletter first, so if you're not subscribed, I would do so now!

Thanks for the replies, folks.
I definitely understand what y'all are saying but I'm a little picky when it comes to the money I spend. My fiance has me on a gaming budget, too. =P
I'll just have to wait a bit longer for a Fantasy Starter Set. Basically, I want a bundle package so that I don't have to buy a bunch of decks right off the bat. As I said before, I've got monetary limitations to observe and a $30 starter set is about right for me. :)
Not to say that I won't go on and buy each and every deck... but... you know, baby steps!
Any updates regarding my heart's desire? ;)
I can say this: it's DEFINITELY in our 2012 Release Schedule. ;) If you can generate a groundswell of interest, maybe I can squeeze it out sooner... ;)
Haha... I am an avid pimper o' games I love, you can see my favorite squeeze of the month in my sig at rpg.net. :) I always want to see indie developers succeed as much as possible, so I do my part.
One of the reasons I really want a fantasy starter set is that I know a group of Magic the Gathering folks that are steadily growing fed up with the game... much the same way I did many years ago... and I am thinking of trying to break them into RPGs with something familiar. Cards as a primary feature makes it attractive because I can draw off of their board game sensibilities.
In addition to that, I am a friend of the owner of our local comics 'n' games store (Four Horseman Comics & Gaming in Morgantown, WV). He is a cool dude and would probably stock different sets of Untold... on the advice that it would be possible to sway the card game groups into at least checking it out. People love cards, you know? Plus, it is a chance to spread RPGs and that is something to be pursued for sure. :)
So yeah, I can do some of the groundwork for Untold as far advertisement goes... but I'm not comfortable pimping until I've had a taste and my preferred flavor is fantasy. >=]

@ MacLeod- The Churl Confederation deck is pretty much pure fantasy! :)
I can definitely see that a fantasy game can be put together by the existing cards but I want something a little more dedicated, I guess. Or, perhaps because I haven't really seen the game in action that I'm just not understanding how it could easily be a fantasy game.
That said, my vision for a fantasy game is less pseudo-medieval/renaissance styled and more like a science-fantasy Final Fantasy VI setting.
One of my big concerns is that the races won't be diverse enough for me. What Race cards exist currently? Do the following exist as race cards? Dwarves, elves, hobbits, yeti folk, moogles, fairies, vampires, were-creatures, demons, gnomes...?
What about equipment? How are different types of medieval weapons and armor handled? Are there shields? How are magical items handled?
How easy would it be to place setting restrictions on magic? Would it effectively lower the UP cost of spells?
As a side note, would it be a problem at all to hand-wave a klik into being an android more akin to Wren from Phantasy Star IV?

Well, I'm not up on Final Fantasy, but Untold IS a science fantasy setting.
In addition to the Core races: Apoc Churl, Apoc High-bred, Klik Roller, Klik Tripod, L'na Dawn, L'na Twilight.
Here's some more of the race cards:

With Elite status, you can order Custom Decks, and could therefore "skip" the tech-type cards and build your own sets!
I didn't know about that. :) Sounds like a good solution... Perhaps I'll look into the Elite status.
Does it ever go on sale? I'd like to purchase a yearly subscription but I don't think I could justify even $4.50 a month. =P
You can get an Elite membership for just one month, order what decks you want and then not renew your Elite membership... Totally up to you! :D
It is very tempting. The reason I mentioned the year subscription is because if I become a certified Untold GM and start running CUBEs, I want to be all in so I have as much information as physically possible to reel folks into the game. :)
But you are right, maybe I should start off slow to get what I need and invest later. I may have to wait 'til the 16th though. :( Maybe Loot will host the Starter (Core): Starter Set before then. :P
We've been considering subscription stuff...and would love to know how our customers feel about something like that! :D
Oh wait, the yearly subscription of Elite is $60, not $54. I didn't see the '+' symbol there. Whoops!
What sort of options are you analyzing, sir?
Tons o stuff. :P
The order I want to put in is $127.75... So it looks like I'm going to have to wait a bit on it. =(
Maybe I'll be able to convince my FLGS owner buddy to order Untold stuff and he can put it on my tab. =P
Or simply place two orders. :)
Never! ;)
I talked to the folks at my FLGS... after explaining myself and answering enthusiastic questions as best I could, they seemed really interested in it. Especially Kaleb, the owner's son. I've got a player already and I don't even own a single card yet. =P
I wouldn't be surprised if y'all received an order for Morgantown, WV within the month. =D Let us all hope that it catches on, we make an Untold group and the orders come in at a steady pace. =)
Sounds great! If you guys/gals want to pool things together and make one big order, that's cool with us! :D
Definitely. I'm going to talk to Ron again and see what his decision is. I'll make sure that everything in my cart is on the list at bare minimum so's I can have my cards.
What would you recommend, with the obvious inclusion of the Core Starter, that we order for general consumer consumption? Basically, what are the "hot sellers"?
I'm sure he'll want to start small, tests the waters and then go in for more based on the results.
Is Ron the FLGS' owner? If so, he'll need to drop an email to retailers@untoldthegame.com - we'll have retailer prices for him. :D
Obviously this changes from person to person, but I'd say the decks that are essential are as follows:
Starter Deck (honestly it's all you need to run some good games, but for the sake of truly varying experiences we'll continue)
Size Matters (adds a really cool dynamic to any game, definitely a must)
Foundational Powers (has most, if not all, 'pre-req' power cards, or cards that act as a requirement for other cards)
Primal Magic (If you want a fantasy setting, you'll need this. Has a lot of shamanistic-type magic, brimming actually)
Lock n' Load (well, it's a guns deck. If you don't need/want guns don't bother, but if you do, this deck is absolutely a must)
Melee Weapons (should be self explanatory)
L'na Starter Deck (come with gifts of oaze and maoru. Combined with primal magic you'll have just about everything you'll ever need to make a wizard.)
Klik Starter Deck (Like lock n' load, you only need it if you ever intend to do anything with Klik. If you do intend to use them though, it's a must.)
Basic Traits (definitely good to have)
Basic Skills (This whole deck I stick in the middle of my campaign as 'whenever you want them' powers.)
That's my list. I have other decks that I'd recommend, but I'd suggest investing in these first.
Excellent list, M3! +22 UP!
Yeah, Ron Davis is the owner of Four Horsemen Comics & Gaming. :)
I'll be sure to direct him to the correct areas when it comes to ordering time. (which I hope is soon)
Thanks for the tips, MegaMagicMonkey. :)
The only thing I would differ on, I think, is the Apoc Starter Set instead of Primal Magic... only because it includes the human-like races *and* Primal Magic.
Oh, and I think I would probably choose Hostile Hand: Minions of New Earth for more Minion variety.
No prob, my pleasure! :D

Greetings!
Actually, it's really easy to divorce the technology from Untold! Just pull any "tech" cards from any of the decks that you buy!
Here's your Fantasy Starter Set: (I know, this is 4 decks, but Untold is worth it!)
Starter (Core): Apoc Starter Deck (There really aren't many cards here that can't be used in a fantasy game!)
Starter (Core): L'na Starter Deck
Banes (Core): Basic Banes
Hostile Hand (Core): GM's Minions (you will get some "tech" minions in here.)
Really, just avoid these sets:
Adventure: Bad Beginnings Alpha
Battle Faction: NAU Defenders
Iconic Character: Buzzsaw
Iconic Character: 201132
Iconic Character: Sarge
Powers: Clockwork Components
Powers: Heavy Metal
Powers: Lock 'n' Load
Powers: NAU Defender Powers
Races (Core): Klik: Rollers and Tripods
Starter (Core): Starter Set
Starter (Core): Klik Starter Deck
Triple Threat: Slugs and Steel
I hope this has been helpful!
EDIT: I also realized that you don't have to ignore the Klik -- You can use them for Golems and Constructs! :D
