can time itself be transcended when someone is transfered from one world to another?
And help me understand one thing. How is it that the three worlds are "crashing" into each other? Just through deminsional gateways, or like the walls seperating the worlds are deteriorating, or the worlds fringes are breaking apart and intertwining with other worlds?
One can not count on the whims of the Warp! Our existence is only along for the ride.
I like that - "the whims of the warp"... Hurm.... :)
I sort of imagined the clashing of universes as a cosmic chemistry set gone bad. Existences are crashing into one another and so one minute a person may be walking down a desolated path in the Apoc world and the next, without any knowledge of how it happened, they are in the bliss of Ai. I always imagined it as extremely random, subject to any slight change in one of the universes.
You're right on, Ben! Furthermore, the Flux is completely variable in the way it acts/interacts, so it could operate as you've said one moment and in the next moment, it could be violent and storm-like. So, just like the rest of Untold, it gives the GM TONS of fun stuff to play with.
We are trying to keep a few elements of the flux the same across the board, however - we always want the energy (or the representatives thereof) to be orange (whether it be orange globs, orange arcs of lightning-like energy, or what have you), with hints of blue swirling energy around the edges (sorta like the logo on this poster: http://www.untoldthegame.com/node/66).
So, we're hoping that everyone will tow that line, but other than that, we leave it in the GM's capable hands...
BTW, I LOVE YOUR SIG, BEN!!!
The consistency in the energy as far as color and shape and so on I think is necessary to atleast give the player an understanding of what is going on. I like it when some things are clearly defined, like how exactly did I go from walking down a narrow path somewhere in the Great Machine, to pure and total destruction of Apoc Earth. And it gives the game a consistent feeling over all, something which is missing from some games and too narrowly defined in others.
Thanks, btw, I thought the sig was cool too.
Absolutely - that's one of our goals with Untold - give enough framework to provide that consistency and dependability, but leave the rest in the hands of the GMs and Players to have FUN with! :)

Re: Time - this is completely up to the GM! If the GM wants to have a time slip between Earth and Ai, for instance, but not between Earth and the Great Machine, then that's cool with us! However, he or she will need to remember and keep track of that. This is one of those elements that we, as designers, think would be a very cool thing to do, but we're not going to force it on anyone. :)
Re: Space - remember that we're not just talking about worlds colliding, but UNIVERSES! So you have to ask yourself - what happens when a universe collides with another? The possibilities are endless and ultimately varied - so let you're imagination run wild! Maybe you have gateways ripping open, spitting out metric tons of plasma and cosmic dust into the vacuum of space (or even onto the surfaces of other planets)! This new alien material then spawns new stars, or planets...
Or maybe universal seismic ripples of energy, light and raw magic race across the skies, warping and changing worlds that fall beneath their wake...
Or....
You see - the possibilities are endless! When you come up with cool ideas - post them here! :D
