Location: Ruins of Denver, Colorado
Setting: Midday on a clear and cool spring day in a massive clearing near the edge of the Denver ruins
Forces: A Weaver of Despair and her patchwork army attempting to defend her new-found home (RUINS) from a coalition of L'na, wildlife and elemental beings (MOUNTAINS).
RUINS Leader: Weaver of Despair
MOUNTAINS Leader: Deepdigger/Starrunner/Draft Rider
Setup: The Flux Front that plagues the central part of North America does not simply threaten the NAU. Flux energy taints all nature around it, and Flux creatures take almost as much joy in harming wildlife as they do sentient creatures.
The mountain range known as the Colorado Rockies has been largely spared the ravages of the Flux plague, but now war has finally arrived. A new terror, a Weaver of Despair, has decided that she is tired of serving the Lords of the Veil and now seeks to carve out a territory of her own. She found the ruins of the pre-Event city once known as Denver, began assembling an army of her own, and is now seeking to expand her tiny new empire. Her patchwork force is comprised of a few Howling Horrors she managed to bring with her from the Flux Front, a pair of Darkstalkers discovered feeding off the massive amounts of electricity stored in some ancient generators, a pair of mated Crag Crawlers forcibly pressed into service, and even an unfortunate Klik found in an old warehouse. A Rotscourge L’na which has grown to love the taint it consumes has become something of a lieutenant for this new empire, serving as the Weaver’s right hand man. Finally, anchoring her new army, a young Ravager has been charmed into serving this would-be queen.
Some local L'na - A Deepdigger, Starruner, and Draft Rider - have recently discovered the presence of this unnatural atrocity and formed a hasty coalition bent on stopping the Weaver. They seek to either kill her or fight to the end in the attempt. They’ve also managed to convince two Apoc Mountain Goats and some local elemental powers to join their cause as well, adding two Living Lightnings and two Mag’grin to their arsenal. Finally, rounding off the group is a sole Rust Moth — who should not be underestimated in this fight.
Neither side is willing to back down, believing fully in their respective cause. Both factions wield incredible power, and the impending battle will be one for the ages. Who will win the war?
Tactical Analysis:
The Ruins Force: Total UP - 291
The Ruins Force is a patchwork army made up of whatever creatures the Weaver of Despair could press into service. Besides the Weaver itself, the army is thus far comprised of 2 Howling Horrors, 2 Crag Crawlers, 2 Darkstalkers, 1 Junker, and 1 Rotscourge. Much to the Weaver’s surprise, she has recently discovered a young Ravager to add to her forces. Her army is arrayed as follows:
- Front Line:
- Crag Crawler, Howling Horror, Ravager, Howling Horror, Crag Crawler
- Rear Line:
- Darkstalker, Rotscourge, Weaver of Despair (with Invisible Hunter and Plague Bearer Lvl. 9), Junker, Darkstalker
- Tactics:
- The Ruins army has a focus on powerful strikes, with a smattering of Bane effects to round it out. The Ravager, Crag Crawlers, Darkstalkers, and Junker all have brutal physical attacks capable of dealing massive magnitude damage to their foes. The 2 Howling Horrors prowling on the Front Line also have an excellent special ability, “Horrible Scream 3”, which can inflict the DESPAIR, DEMENTED and INSANE Banes upon the opposing army. Bringing the force together in the center of the back line is the Weaver of Despair, with Invisible Hunter and Plague Bearer Lvl. 9 attached. If your opponent manages to reach her, they’re going to regret it. The Invisible Hunter card makes it difficult to hit her with any attacks, and Plague Bearer Lvl.9 offers a Drain ability that can easily get rid of a weaker creature. As if these weren’t bad enough, the Weaver of Despair holds several strong inherent abilities as well. Dread Fate can either Drain or inflict Banes, and this Power is strengthened by Magical Combatant 2 - which adds a powerful +3 to magical attacks such as her own core capabilities. The Weaver of Despair is also reinforced by her Rotscourge lieutenant, which has several Bane abilities of his own and the MAG to back them up.
The Mountain Coalition: Total UP - 288
The Mountain Coalition is a patchwork army as well. A ragtag group of L’na, wildlife, and elements, the it is still not a force to be taken lightly. They are capable of massive amounts of damage. Three L’na lead the Mountain Coalition: Deepdigger, Draft Rider, and Starrunner. The friends they brought to the fight are 2 Mag’grin, 2 Apoc Mountain Goats, 2 Living Lightnings, and 1 Rust Moth to deal with the Klik. Their forces are arrayed as follows:
- Front Line:
- Apoc Mountain Goat, Mag’grin, Deepdigger (with Mountain’s Blessing Lvl.5 and Phase Into Earth Lvl.2), Mag’grin, Apoc Mountain Goat
- Rear Line:
- Living Lightning, Starrunner, Rust Moth, Draft Rider, Living Lightning
- Tactics:
- The Mountain Coalition brings the raw power of nature to bear on its enemies. The Apoc Mountain Goats are four-legged battering rams - literally. With a whopping 10 MAG before boosts, they are deadly to any foe within charging range. They also hold the Deadly Combatant 2 ability, allowing them to Boost any Aspect +3. The Mag’grin holding the center of the front line are likewise extremely deadly. Dealing enormous amounts of MAG and pairing it with a solid defense, when combined with the Goats they provide a defensive wall few can overcome. Finally, anchoring the middle of the front ranks, a Deepdigger stands ready with Mountain’s Blessing Lvl.5 and Phase Into Earth Lvl.2. Deepdigger has a powerful special attack, Gripping Fist of Earth, which can either damage a target or render it IMMOBILE. Phase Into Earth provides a much needed +2 Body ATK and DEF, and when coupled with the Mountain’s Blessing of +1 Body ATK and 5 VIT the Deepdigger can fit right in on the front lines of battle.
The Second Line of the Mountain side is focused more on special abilities. The Living Lightnings on either end are extremely dangerous, with powerful damaging abilities, and they can only be hit with ranged attacks - allowing them to be used in a more defensive role. Starrunner is a mental beast, with a built in Charm 2 that can turn the opponent’s minions against them. The Investiture of Maoru – Dominion ability likewise allows you to force a target to re-roll a d20 and take the roll that benefits you the most, possibly changing the tide of any battle. Opposite the Starrunner is the Draft Rider, a lesson in raw power harnessing the power of the storm. Gust of Wind can not only deal damage - also potentially leaving a target PRONE - and it is backed up with a powerful 18 MAG before Boost. Like the Living Lightnings, both the Starrunner and the Draft Rider can also only be hit with ranged attacks... only adding to their defensive qualities. Finally, at the center of the back line flutters a single Rust Moth. Don’t let appearances fool you! If the Rust Moth gets to the unfortunate press-ganged Klik, that will be the end of him. Beyond merely sharing the protective Flight ability of the other creatures on the back line, this deceptively-potent combatant brings a devastating 20 MAG with it as well.
